Brief Description



Surgical oncology is the branch of surgery applied to oncology; it focuses on the surgical management of tumors, especially cancerous tumors. Ephraim McDowell did the first reported resection of an ovarian tumor in 1809, but as early as the 7th century, ancient Egyptians described techniques for removing breast tumors.

This unit require multidisciplinary work and a team effort in dealing with such critical cases. We have a panel of experienced oncosurgeon and a medical team to provide medical and surgical treatment for these patients. We perform various surgeries in different speciality.

•  Gastro Intestinal Oncosurgeries- Gastric cancer, radical cholecystectomy, whipple’s, colorectal cancers, APR.
• Gynaecological oncosurgeries- Werthiem’s, Malignant ovarian tumor, uterine tumors.
• Breast cancer surgery- Radical mastectomy and reconstruction.
• Head and Neck cancer surgery

Early Cancer Detection Programme

We have a separate dedicated early cancer detection unit linked with various NGO’s and we routinely run various programmes for the public awareness and early detection of cancer in the population. Various programmes which we run are

• Oral Cancer Detection programme.
• Early Breast cancer detection programme.
• Early Cervical cancer detection programme. (Pap smear).
• Early Colonic cancer detection programme. (FOBT & Sigmoidoscopy)
• Early Gastric cancer detection programme. (Gastroscopy)
